The most pressing goal for the Friends
association is the improvement of the main road
in the park. This road extends from US-23 to the
trailhead and Lake Huron. The road varies from
rough two track to a clay-stone mix. Seasonally,
deep pot holes appear from use and make the road unusable for
certain vehicles. Friends of
Thompson’s Harbor State Park would like to have
the road improved enough so all may access
the park, regardless of vehicle type. The Friends
association is currently raising awareness of this
issue and working with the DNR park staff on a
resolution to this issue.
FOTH is also working closely with the DNR park staff to keep
existing trails within the park clear of debris and branches for
ease of walking. Again, this would greatly increase access to the
park and its wonderful surroundings.

to help students identify species and projects.
